Camp Nurse

Canada/USA Mathcamp is an academic summer camp, looking to hire an RN or LPN for a part-time position.

June 20 to July 27, 2019
Lewis & Clark, Portland, OR

This is an ideal role for a school/university nurse who wants to keep working during the summer. The on-campus hours are two hours per day, Monday through Saturday, plus on-call time by phone during the day. (You can expect just a few hours per week of daytime phone calls.) The specific hours are flexible based on your needs and the program's needs, and can be fully arranged ahead of time. Regular hours are June 20 to July 27, 2019; plan on a few additional hours for orientation in the week before regular hours begin.

The camp nurse is the primary healthcare professional for our population of 120 students (ages 13 - 18) and 30 staff (ages 18 - 70). Responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing each student's health record before they arrive at camp; verifying that immunizations are up-to-date and advising the director of any medical conditions that require special attention.
  • Organizing and supervising the regular administration of daily medications.
  • Assessing and treating sicknesses and injuries that come up.

In past years, the role has been very relaxed because the program is so small, and so you would have plenty of time to yourself or to join in on program activities and meet the students socially. With just two hours of commitment per day, you would also have the flexibility to have most of the day free. The pay will be $25/hour for an LPN and $30/hour for an RN. Your expected hours would be: 2 hours for reviewing medical records, 2 hours for staff training, 2 hours/day for 30 program days (60 hours), 5 hours on-call time, and 1 hour for wrapping up at the end of the program for a total of approximately $1750 (LPN) or $2100 (RN).

To apply, please prepare a cover letter and resume describing your interest in the role and relevant experience. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

Applications have closed for 2019. Stay tuned for next year.
